Surfing, Writing, and Happiness

Is Happiness something you do? Its more like the result of behaviors. So I have built behaviors that have led me to happiness, so I can look back and disassemble those behaviors and have a formula for what works.
Since I was young, I have gotten a strong spiritual connection from nature. First it was hiking and fishing in the mountains of Mammoth. It has always been one of my favorite vacation locations. I took up skiing and found that I could have that connection in the greatest ski spots in the country and the world.
After careers of working in the city, I found that connection again living at the beach. I often go into the water as surfers say “just to get wet”. Its like that first sip of an ice cold beer on a hot summer day. Its works in the winter too.
And I love to write. It empties me or maybe it completes me. Sometimes they feel the same. I have no problem rising at 5 a.m. and writing for a few hours.
My happiness journey started with healthy eating and fitness. It led to discipline, risk, courage, and spiritual connection. Gratitude is the real end result. Contribution makes me happy. I hope I am helping others feel better.
So if I put them all together it is a crazy smoothie. I should mention that I don’t like tedious and need variety. Its amazing I could consolidate my pursuits down to a few. Hope you are crazy too. Let’s play.
