Rapture would be my alternative to using “orgasm” for non sexual experiences.

I know I have had many “over the top” experiences where I just felt it couldn’t get any better. Using a common one, I know I felt it when seeing each of my daughters exit from the womb and holding them for the first time. I even got to cut the cords.

I have had many a rapturous ski run and ski day. After skiing for 30 years and training for it by running up to 60 miles a week, I was definitely at the top of the pyramid and had peak experiences that would be the ultimate for anyone short of being a real professional.

Who has the most enjoyment, the person who bakes the great dessert or the person who eats it?

Both experiences are different.

Both experiences are great pursuits. Sometimes we want to have the ultimate consumption experience and maybe own the “ultimate driving machine” . How many people have this at the top of their “rapture” list? They picture the day they are given the keys and get in their new car and rub their hand over the fresh smelling new car leather, before engaging and exiting the lot.

How many people relish being the creator of the great experience for others? How many boys grow up dreaming of being at the plate in the World Series in the 9th inning with bases loaded, two outs, and their opportunity to drive the winning run?

How many people think of creating the ultimate experience for themselves? Why would someone climb Mt Everest? What would be the feeling to summit, plant the flag, and have your picture taken 29,000 feet above sea level?

Why did someone want to be the first to the North Pole? Was it for the benefit of everyone else or for their own aggrandizement? What would be the feeling to be the first human to reach that destination?

Most of us have more modest achievements in mind but the desire for the feeling can be the same. I look again for the feeling of rapture at the end of a surf run or at the end of a surf session. I know that me and comrades are pumped with adrenaline when we come out on a good day and recap our experience. It’s a surfers’ high.

I love to finish a writing session where I feel I encapsulated my own experience of reading new information and having my own opinion into a single short diatribe. Sometimes I feel rapturous. It’s something I wanted to do and I felt I accomplished it.

Being in the “flow” or the “zone” is many peoples definition of rapturous states. Daniel Goleman is most often quoted as the authority on how we look for a challenge that we know we can meet and enter a world of timelessness as we engage in the activity.

I have experienced flow in athletic contests and it is a state where you can do no wrong and from which you do not ever want to exit. I get into flow when I write. I have had one surfing experience on a calm day when the waves were a few minutes apart and I could ride in, paddle out, and catch another for as long as I could endure. I didn’t want the day to end, but at a point my arms felt differently.

Looking for rapture has to be close to our purpose. It certainly is an experience of happiness. It usually occurs where there is passion. It usually happens at the time of peak performance.

Living dull and non eventful days is a terrible trap. Sometimes it takes courage to risk going out on a limb, putting our self image on the line, tempting judgment, facing failure, tempting fate, leaving the comfort zone, going it alone, seeing if we have it, facing our own mortality, and just saying “damn the torpedoes”.

The greatest thing about being human is that we have choice.

What Surfing Teaches Me About Life

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

When I first started, I might miss a whole week because I gathered on the street above the ocean, like my comrades deciding whether it “looked good”

I was looking for a certain “sameness” a predictability of something I would like. We live our lives like this. Our brains function to categorize stimulus. Over a period of time we instantly put something we see into a category of “I’ve seen that before, I know what it is”.

And yet if you looked at a tree, you would immediately classify it as “treeness”, but could you a minute later recognize that tree if it were next to 100 other similar trees. We rarely look closely at a tree, but they are each very unique. Chaos Theory tells us that things are unique, but we over simplify.

It is the essence of creativity to see the uniqueness and even understand the uniqueness of everything we see. Our brain wants to pursue the right answer, certainty, and predictability. When water is heating in a pan it follows certain rules of orderliness as the temperature rises.

When it boils, it turns to chaos. Water running down a mountain can follow a predictable path. When it hits a rock, it must reorganize and chaos follows. After it gets beyond the rock, a more orderly flow may resume.

Truth comes out of chaos or often the “bifurcation” created by doubt, change, or the unpredictable. When researchers investigate a mass of information, they often get the “ahas” as the information flows and eddies and comes to a new subtle revelation. I love to do massive reading in the afternoons and see what comes up the next morning when its time to write.

In our desire to see and classify everything to develop certainty we make mistakes about people. We make mistakes about entire races, religions, and nationalities. We give them one big classification and would not think that among them there might be a lot of people we would like.

We often choose politicians out of a need to develop certainty from chaos. We latch onto a catch phrase such as “read my lips, no new taxes.”  We usually are wrong about these simplistic conclusions made out of our need for certainty.

The more narrowly we define something, the further we usually are from the truth. We seem to get bored because everyday is the same. In reality, very few days are the same. Chaos Theory says that there are so many billions of influences on every second of life that it would be virtually impossible for any two minutes to be alike.

Life is orderly like it was in Japan before last week, then influences greater than we will ever understand came together to create chaos. Out of the chaos will come a new order and maybe changes that will improve life in the future. Our own lives have continuous earthquakes and tsunamis of a more subtle order.

Maybe the changes are so small we don’t notice. Sort of like why we can’t recognize one tree out of a hundred; Sort of why one day seems like the last; Sort of why people get quickly classified.

I have now learned to go surfing everyday. No two waves are alike and no two days are ever alike. In reading the book “The Wave” the big wave surfers say that when the big sets come they can be dangerous because each 60 foot wave could be much different than the last one depending on several factors.

I now go into the ocean each day saying “you bring it” and “I’ll bring it” and we’ll see what happens.

Your Creativity and The Big Bang Are the Same Energy

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

I faced sort of a stark reality when I read the dedication of a book that was in Memory of the Author’s father; maybe because I am a father and have daughters who are out doing their thing.

In light of the Japan disaster I am in a state of realizing how transitory the gift of time on earth can be. We hear so much about Healthcare and Social Security issues, we presume we are going the distance.

Going the distance is not a birthright. Finding and living to our potential is our destiny. So often it gets wasted and bogged down on chopping wood and carrying water.

If you believe that consciousness is eternal and that it is permissible that while in your body, it doesn’t advance much, that is certainly a choice. On the other hand, there are so many authors in my Resource list that will say happiness and fulfillment is the goal of your spirit.

How do we exercise our destiny by fulfilling our potential? Pimm van Lommel in “Living Beyond Consciousness” recorded the near death experiences of many cardiac arrest patients. They talked about leaving the recovery table and traveling to a place of warm light and unconditional love.

When they returned by resuscitation, it motivated them to spend the remainder of their lives trying to recapture how they felt during that short minute of clinical death. I hate to be maudlin, but our minute could come at any time by Mother Nature, physiology, traffic, or bad luck.

It doesn’t make me pessimistic but more appreciative of the time I have to experience the meaning of self and life. It seems when you think of the people who are closest, you must have been with them in the past and you will meet them again. How meaningful can you make this experience with them?

Your genes are the result of 500 to 1,000 generations of heredity. In them must lie some core competencies. Have you discovered what they are? Our parents birthed us and created our early perceptions of life. We spent our teen years and early adulthood looking for our own identities. What did we find?

The Big Bang occurred about 15 billion years ago; further back than I can remember. It started with a burst of energy and that energy still exists. It is in the space around us and the dynamics that existed at the beginning of time still exist. Scientists continue to discover that the most elementary quarks of life and matter exist in all things through out the Universe.

One of the blessings of being human is that we can actually conceptualize a reality greater than what we observe. Even if we can’t put our fingers on it, we can sense or intuit it.

It gives rise to understanding that our ability to express what we sense is unlimited. Many books have been dedicated to the proposition that getting rich is a matter of creating our dreams by transferring thought or energy to form.

Even though these authors in their books such as the Science of Getting Rich or The Secret have their pulse on our wondrous potential they are left to the commercial vehicle of having to communicate in the vein that will get our interest.

The general population is stuck and for good reason in the material potential of tapping into the energy that surrounds us. At a certain point, and for many lucky ones, self expression starts early.

Some find the need to express themselves in athletics, art, cooking, business, parenthood, recreation, fitness, and spirituality, to name a few. Knowing you are expressing yourself most likely puts you in “flow”. Neurologists will say that the chemicals released in this state are the best definition of the happiness process.

Don’t assume you have forever. Don’t be put off by shyness or fear of judgment. You have 15 billion years of history that have drum rolled to this moment and the audience is waiting to see what you’ve got.

Living on Borrowed Time

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

60% of the global population lives within 30 miles of a Coast.

I happen to be one of them. My daughter called the other evening at midnight freaked out by her friends who were calling their parents that lived in Hawaii over the news about Japan.

I live on the beach in San Diego. This area has had its share of earthquakes. But have you noticed how many severe earthquakes have occurred in the last few years. They don’t all occur in California.

Global warming exacerbates violent weather and can affect movement of the tectonic plates. As the sea level rises, it places more pressure on the earth’s crust which can cause movement. The increased silt deposits on the ocean floor from storm run off creates the opportunity for under water land slides which can create tsunami’s.

I am currently finishing a terrific book by Susan Casey called “The Wave” which explores the power of waves to sink ships and the attraction by surfers to feel the power. Scientists do not even have a theory of what causes what we call freak waves.

They say we don’t have the math. It is fairly important if you are in the business of building ocean platforms or ships or if your occupation includes getting on a platform or delivering oil.

Every week two ships in the world disappear. In that they are not ocean liners we hear little about it. In that there are no witnesses we don’t know what caused it. There are regions that are known for freak waves because of the mixing of warm and cold currents such as off the tip of Africa.

Calving of ice bergs can cause huge waves. Calving of continents can cause bigger waves. In the Storegga Slide that occurred about 8,200 years ago “a section of Norway’s continental shelf the size of Kentucky gave way slicing all signs of life from coastal Norway to Greenland” –Casey

Calving can also be caused by a blow out of methane hydrates which are frozen gas deposits on the ocean floor. They tend to congregate near continental shelves and are extremely sensitive to changes in pressure and temperature; a global warming hair trigger. When they collapse as they may have with the Storegga Slide, they can collapse the sea floor or continental shelf. –Casey

There are some continental shelfs several hundred miles long that could calve in the future given the right conditions such as tectonic plate movement or earthquakes.

Does this make me pessimistic, not at all. I am not going to move off the beach to find safety on a mountain top. It tells me life is precious and I should spend more time each day appreciating it. It tells me I should spend more time appreciating those that are important to me.

It also tells me that my purpose of finding my voice and expressing my purpose should not be deterred about fears of shyness or judgment. It is folly to think that judgment could kill us when we lurk among so many unseen dangers.

The power of Mother Nature gives us perspective on our fear only of the slow moving killers like health and climate. When I went sky diving, the instructor said there are slow moving problems and fast moving problems; a twisted shute is a slow moving problem and a shute that doesn’t open is another problem.

If the people that are suffering and have died in Japan should have any legacy, maybe it would be that the consciousness of the world changed to become more appreciative of every day we live.

“I Want” and the Happiness Process

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Happiness is both a habit and a process.

We have often thought that happiness is a result of something else first. We often think there is scarcity and to get what we want, we have to take it or rob someone else of it.

Our perceptions and what we accept as reality begins our happiness or negativity journey..

In “The Science of Happiness” Stefan Klein” PHD, points out that we can condition the center of the brain that determines our outlook. It is almost a chicken and the egg syndrome.

Some people have a predilection for depression that is hereditary. But this can be changed. It turns out we have two brain centers responsible for happiness and sadness, if you will. The right prefrontal lobe of the neo cortex is responsible for working with our negative thoughts and perceptions.

The left pre frontal lobe is our happiness center.  EEG tests have shown that monks can directly reach the happiness center in meditation.

“People whose right brai half is more active and who have less control over their negative emotions tend to be introverted, pessimistic, and often suspicious. They see catastrophe looming in the slightest misfortune.

People with a significantly stronger left pre frontal cortex, on the other hand, usually prove to be self confident, optimistic, and often high in spirits.” Klein

It’s almost simple as the person who sees the glass half empty or half full.

I like to see people restructure their perceptions and beliefs. I have come to believe that the Universe is primarily consciousness, which would be God is everywhere to some. Out of consciousness matter was created, which is the Universe. Matter is 99.9% space and in that space is information, communications, happiness, our purpose, and our destiny.

There is abundance and we don’t have to take it from someone else. What we really want is not just the BMW, but the feelings we get when we have things. If we want happiness, acceptance, love, fulfillment, and belonging we should start by identifying those feelings and saying “I want…..

Programming the left prefrontal cortex to dominate and diminishing the right pre frontal cortex becomes a habit and then a process. You can crowd out the negative thoughts and after awhile dismiss them when they occur.

Become what you want. Pursue the feelings you want by having them.

I like the affirmation: “I am in the Universe, the Universe is in me, we are united”. This connects me with all the empty space that contains more than I need- Qigong. I like to add that I am at one with the space around me and from it I take love, knowledge and happiness.

I believe I can have the feelings I want.

I set my life up to have them knowing it is just a process. I moved to the beach so that I could feel connection with nature (God, Universe, the Planet). I create a body and mind that is healthy with proper eating and fitness. I pursue a core competency of reading and writing. I fulfill myself by expressing what I feel. I pursue a greater good by trying to bring others to find their voice and express themselves.

We make happiness too complicated and often take the wrong path. If it doesn’t exist in nature or in consciousness, it is probably a diversion or false prophet.

“Want” what is good for you. You are meant to have it. Want what is good for others, that will fulfill you. If you are striving to make yourself more worthy and bring others with you, you will have less time for negative thoughts.

Organizations and People Can Be United in Purpose

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Quantum Physicists, researchers, doctors and scientists are believing in the connection of all living things and all matter at the most core level.

The belief that the Universe is first consciousness that creates matter makes sense on many levels and in many findings that classical physicists and materialists choose to ignore or for which they do not have answers.

If we want answers and truth we have to consider all that we know.

Without going further into that here, we can consider how organizations and people can serve each other. Because most people participate in organizations of some type, it is useful to consider the connection between people and the organizations that are formed to create a focus.

Organizations are organic like people.

They can function healthy and productive or they can be dysfunctional and sluggish.

If the humans in the organization are finding their purpose and identify with the organization, the results can be exponentially better.

In business, getting the humans to optimize their lives and performance into “flow” while creating a mission for the organization that suits its people, its customers, its community, and sustains the earth creates a Brand that is unsurpassable.

Some of the most technological advanced organizations that are more available for study like Google or Apple appreciate the human factor in productivity. There are certainly more that I don’t know about.

The human brain and human consciousness have a more complicated or simpler interaction than modern corporations often give credit. It is difficult to get left brain factual work and right brain creativity to operate at the same time.

It is difficult to get right brain creativity from subjects that are not working out of passion and flow. When people are positive, optimistic, and passionate they can access ideas, solutions, and breakthroughs that can sky rocket an organizations worth and contribution.

Rather than setting an hourly and weekly wage and sending someone to a cubicle to work from 9 to 5, organizations should have a few brain workers that are allowed to work in a fashion and pace that benefits everyone.

The design industry is effective in finding solutions to answers that are deemed impossible because they know how to access the human spirit. They start with defining the task and collecting all the known data that supports possible solutions.

But then they diverge from the normal corporate path that wants production for every hour of pay. In the design industry, time is devoted to think work and imagination work. Enough time is devoted whether it be days, weeks, or months to create viable alternatives.

Then the left brain can be utilized again to create the most practical, profitable solutions and get them into productivity.

Helping individuals find their purpose by creating real solutions activates their highest spirit. Allowing a creative process that is not necessarily time centric may yield results beyond normal hourly client billing. Let’s say you created the I Phone for example.

When organizations can create the flexibility and purpose to engage individuals, serve its customers, serve the community, and help sustain the planet, it becomes a living organism with more power to achieve.

This is the purpose of my constant research and writing.

I can consult with management or speak to organizations on the concepts that move this forward.

Getting Everyone On Board and On Purpose

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Individuals and organizations often don’t understand connectivity.

Humans have so much latitude that they can both realize their connectivity and also operate in total isolation. Modern science, scientists, doctors, and researchers are moving to a more common realization of how we are more a universe of consciousness than matter.

Quantum physics emphasizes that matter is 99.9% space and in that space is information and consciousness we have used for thousands of years to advance the human race. Taoists and civilizations since have felt and expressed the realization that reality is greater than what we can perceive with our five senses and left brain capabilities.

The cell is the core of the materialists’ world and the brain is the origin of all knowledge. We have learned however that the cell is made of atoms and the atoms of smaller particles and that there is energy at the core. We have learned that the materialists’  view of the world does not make sense.

There is more connectivity than they would imagine. If we reversed our knowledge progression to where we began understanding our connectedness first, we would not have so much separation and feelings of isolation and loneliness on the planet.

Our purpose is to nurture ourselves and then nurture and help others advance. It begins at the cellular level. Each cell takes in nutrients and expels waste. If the human organism provides better nutrients, the cells will get stronger and increase their capabilities.

Cells are the basic components of larger systems like skeletal, muscle, organs, and blood that power action and thought. The better we treat ourselves, the better we perform.

The second great component to peak performance is positive thought. If we have gratitude, love, and optimism our performance can reach a new level. We can enter “flow” frequently and even enjoy a life that flows.

Organizations can utilize this natural order. They must nourish and appreciate the people who are part of their entity. They must allow them to flourish and appreciate their individuality. The public consciousness now rewards organizations that treat their people and customers kindly, contribute to community, and are involved in sustainability of the planet.

Subconsciously and consciously, we are coming together. Just as the body destroys millions of cells each day, organizations that don’t get it will also disappear.

We can all help integrate our personal environment with an already intelligent earth. We can nurture our bodies and help our organizations nurture its environment.

Emotional Intelligence and Conscious Living

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Emotional intelligence (EI) is one of the first steps in Conscious Living (CL).

EI consists of two primary steps: Recognizing your own feelings and reacting appropriately; recognizing others’ feelings and acting empathetically. The highest form of EI as defined by the most quoted authority Gary Goleman is “flow”.

Flow is the engagement in activities that are a challenge but not overwhelming. They are activities that you have practiced and in which you have competence. As you engage you shut out distractions and lose track of time. Your performance is the best of your abilities as you have relaxed focus with just enough adrenaline to make the activity more fun than anything else you can do.

Conscious Living is engaging in flow, but with even more depth and effectiveness. CL is eliminating the rough spots between the times you would engage in flow. Because flow entails eliminating distractions, CL is the practice of eliminating the negative thoughts and feelings that would disrupt flow.

“The journey of conscious living is a path of continuous choosing. When you choose to step out of role and routine-when you find the courage to improvise and innovate so that you and others around you feel more vital and connected-this is conscious living.” –“Conscious Living” by Gay Hendricks

The aspect of CL that I see making lives more effective is eliminating the rough spots. The rough spots for many are the negative feelings that can interrupt a perfectly good life. Interrupting them consists of two main practices.

The first is building a strong belief in your own self worth. This is not as difficult as it sounds and can happen fairly quickly with the right perspective. When you are able to accept the concept that we are all one and that you are entitled and expected to have abundance, you start losing your low self esteem.

The second step is accepting and loving your negative thoughts about yourself and bad feelings when they occur. Hendricks, a 30 year therapist, has easy practices with which he takes you through when bad feelings occur.

The main practice is to go deep into that feeling until there is a shift. Our usual practice is to find something that will distract us. That is often food, alcohol, anger, shopping, anxiety, depression. Those with a little better coping skills might find exercise or meditation are good escapes.

But when you sit and embrace the feeling and go as deep as you can, you eventually let it run its course and find that space opens around it. In one example, Hendricks says the all consuming emotion soon becomes a child on a swing in a large playground.

As you learn to develop a pro active concept of your self worth and purpose for being here and learn to defeat negative feelings, your life starts taking on a more predictable smoothness.

“Conscious living is the art of expressing gratitude for the gift of life by learning and living as much as we can until the moment we’re not here.” Hendricks

“Conscious loving is the art of learning and loving in our relationships-our relationships with ourselves and others- so that we eventually feel a continuous flow of love inside and out.” Hendricks

How does Hendricks define Conscious Living:

“Conscious living is:

  • The art of feeling your feelings
  • Speaking authentically
  • Knowing your life purpose
  • Carrying out effective actions that
  • Contribute to your own well being and
  • To the well being of others”

Focusing on a life of purpose and using a few affirmations keeps your energy on the positive and crowds out the negative.

What are some questions Hendricks would ask about finding purpose:

“Finding Purpose:

  • What do I most love to do?
  • What could engage me so deeply I would never want to retire?
  • What am I really about?
  • What would be a purpose so grand that it cold express itself through everything I do? “

As I discussed in Yesterday’s Post, “Are You Living on Purpose”, Stephen Covey in “The 8th Habit” and many others say our highest purpose is to find our core competencies, express them, and then help others do the same.

The habits of Conscious Living help you get your emotional life on track so that you can be more effectively on a daily basis and love your life.

**

Conscious Living by Gay Hendricks

He hints at the Universal connections but is much more grounded in heartfelt stories about how people move forward to more productive and loving lives.

The 8th Habit by Stephen Covey

Our purpose is to instill in others the belief in their value and give them the confidence that they are capable of achieving worthwhile dreams. He consolidates his previous 7 Habits as the path to the 8th.

A very grounded study of how we have talents to exploit and how we should lead others on the same path.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown

Her feeling is that she can get people to realize their potential but first giving air to the secrets we hide is a best first step. She discusses releasing shame which I have aired publicly and felt it was a cathartic exercise. I now dig deeper to find more shame.

“Life Reaches its full flowering when we bring forth our creative desires and treasures with which we have been blessed and act on them in the world.” Gay Hendricks

“Finding Purpose:

  • What do I most love to do?
  • What could engage me so deeply I would never want to retire?
  • What am I really about?
  • What would be a purpose so grand that it cold express itself through everything I do? “

Two researchers/authors who have spent their lives discovering what makes people effective, productive, happy and on purpose wind up at a place that some of our famous gurus have also come to land.

Charles Haanel, Napoleon Hill, Alan Fine, Amit Goswami have arrived at the same places as well. We come to a realization and acceptance that there is a Universal consciousness. This consciousness is a connection between all living things and all matter.

When we accept that we are a part of the whole and not separate entities left best to go it alone, we feel the wisdom of becoming better and helping others do the same.

Most people see life as a struggle. Thousands of people interviewed, treated, and studied by this group of authors reveal that the majority of people are not happy at work and struggle with relationships and happiness.

The concept of separation is what keeps people from the feeling of belonging, being loved and feeling lovable. We are not alone and separate unless we choose to feel that way. We are one and part of the whole. Everything on earth argues for that point.

Quantum Physics is a great start to seeing the unity. It has been made understandable by several authors, my favorite being Pim van Lommel in “Consciousness Beyond Life”. We have intellectually and spiritually gone beyond classical physics.

There is a knowing and a consciousness in the Universe that people experience and are yet afraid to give credence or to discuss. They are afraid to be open to experiences of connection they have lived. They cast them aside as strange coincidences.

Real creativity and our greatest breakthroughs have come from accessing the information that surrounds us and yet requires a revelation to tap, Sometimes revelations are just small breakthroughs on how to solve a vexing problem and sometimes they are the Theory of Relativity.

Those who experience our connection have the tough task of expressing it so that those who don’t believe or yet recognize their own connection can be gently moved to a place of seeing. The authors have to have enough grounding so that their readers and audiences to whom they speak accept that the authors have their feet solidly planted in the world that we do recognize.

I have made that trip from non believing to believing.  One of my efforts is with my youngest college daughter who has experienced connection and yet says she fears accepting it all at one time. Her dreams reveal her suppression of that which is alive in her consciousness during the day.

At the top of the order, our purpose is to recognize we are all one, we have exceptional gifts, and they are best realized by expressing them. We have to come from a place of good intentions and understanding that we reach our potential by expressing our selves and helping others find their voice.

The path for getting there is an individual journey but does not take as long or is as difficult as spending twenty to thirty years following the wrong goals. I have read at least 20 good books that moved me along and I continue to read. Each time I get the information at a deeper level. Each one reinforces what other people know.

It hasn’t taken as long to read these books as the forty years I spent chasing certain idols thinking I was on the right path laid out by the previous generation.

Our purpose is to be happy and fulfilled. It is 100% available and it doesn’t take money. Our purpose is to contribute to community.  When we see the electronic and digital progress being made in the world we can see the unconscious efforts of connection trying to manifest.

We can get ahead of the curve and manifest ahead of the digital world by realizing where it is going. In reality we can communicate without devices, but our consciousness will take a while getting there.

“I Mark Kaplan am committed to living my life in expanding waves of love and consciousness.” A small affirmation contributed by Gay Hendricks to get us on purpose.

The 8th Habit by Stephen Covey

Our purpose is to instill in others the belief in their value and give them the confidence that they are capable of achieving worthwhile dreams. He consolidates his previous 7 Habits as the path to the 8th.

Conscious Living by Gay Hendricks

He hints at the Universal connections but is much more grounded in heartfelt stories about how people move forward to more productive and loving lives. I just sent this to my daughter for $10 including shipping. Considering her college education is over $100,000, it’s a small price to pay.

Consciousness Beyond Life by Pim van Lommel, M.D.

A cardiologist studies consciousness through patients experiencing near death in Cardiac Arrest and the possibilities revealed in Quantum Physics in a “discussion for dummies” to provide a great starting point for understanding connection and ever lasting consciousness.

You Already Know How to Be Great by Alan Fine

A very grounded study of how we have talents to exploit and how we should lead others on the same path.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown

Her feeling is that she can get people to realize their potential but first giving air to the secrets we hide is a best first step. She discusses releasing shame which I have aired publicly and felt it was a cathartic exercise. I now dig deeper to find more shame.

Three Responses When You Say “I Want”

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

“I Want” is you converting energy of thought to real form. The universe supports you and it is important to find your support in your daily life.

In Qigong one saying for contemplation is:

  • I am in the Universe
  • The Universe is in My Body
  • The Universe and I Combine Together

What happens when you express your thought to those surrounding you?

I will block you. Regardless of how they say it or what they mean, it is their intention. They might be jealous, want to control you, want you to go their way, or don’t want you to be happy for their own reasons. Their intentions come in all sorts of statements and innuendos.

I support you. These people want you to be happy. They want to see you successful. They will ask what they can do to support you. They will give you encouragement. They have no personal agenda in your progress.

I want the same.  These people may want to partner, join, follow, or just go in the same direction. If you have ideas that are for contribution to the greater good you may find a following of like minded people who are altruistic and are looking for avenues to contribute.

To get the support of the Universe and those surrounding us it is so important we find our own core. It is important we take care of our own well being. If we show respect for our bodies, minds, and spirit, other people will understand that we are making a contribution. We will attract like minded family, friends, and strangers.

I have found that the more I am into how connected everything is in our universe, the more connection I see. I see it in my walks on the beach as I notice the birds like to sit together for no other reason than community. I see the expression of connectivity in more books, each expressing it differently. I see it in more philosophies.

There are activities that connect us like meditation, yoga, long walks or runs, being with nature, appreciating our food, and kindness.

When “I Want” connects with more natural forces it has more power. When “I Want” is about feelings, charity, and contribution, there is more support.

“I Want” replaces negative thoughts of “I Fear”. We were meant to have abundance and it comes in many forms, not just money. “I Want” can be happiness, love, community, productivity, peace, self reliance, and connectivity. These are usually the emotions behind our material desires. Connecting with the emotion first will deliver the material in a form that is desirable. And the form might be a surprise.

“I Need More Space” is a Misnomer

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

It’s all space. You can’t create more space any more than you can create or destroy energy.

Matter is 99.9% space. What someone means is they want to disconnect. That’s too bad because there is a growing conscious and subconscious effort to get everyone connected.

The prevailing point of view, until now, is that everything is matter. Everything that you think or know originates in your brain. The sub rosa point of view that many people have trouble acknowledging, almost out of fear, is that most knowing is outside the brain.

Even doctors and scientists who research how we can know things that we can’t see have resistance to accepting that everything in our space is totally connected and available if you have the sensitivity.

Going further, to the belief that I now hold, is that of Amit Goswami. He is a noted Quantum Physicist who has written the book for many universities. He holds that there are too many paradoxes if you hold everything is matter. What he says makes sense is if you hold that everything is consciousness and it creates the matter.

That is the theory of how the Kabbala and String Theory explain the Big Bang. First there was energy and then it exploded. The modern day gurus who say you can create your dreams by first forming your thoughts are replicating this theory. Everything is energy and thought brings it into form.

The government sponsored twenty years of Stanford research into how people could accomplish remote viewing. The one characteristic that all people who can tap into the space to know things that seem impossible have is the ability to shut down external stimulus first.

EEG tests have shown that they shut down the area of the brain called the posterior superior parietal lobe. This is the section that tells you where you are standing and gives you separation from all things. Those who reach into the consciousness around us cause this part of the brain to go dark as they enter a state of connectedness.

Even religion creates separateness. It discusses your relationship with God as though it is a one on one occurrence. If you believe that the energy is everywhere then God is not a picture on a wall or a one on one, but we are all connected in one giant space.

Getting connected requires that we reduce the external noise to hear the quieter messages. Those with the talent say the messages are there for all of us to hear but they are softer than the ambient noise of daily input. The best time to hear them is when we meditate or in the night when we have suspended Beta and Alpha waves. In sleep we drop into Theta and Delta waves where our subconscious is open to all those messages we may try to shut out during the day.

We want to be connected. Mark Zuckerberg may have stumbled into Face Book in the dark but Twitter, E Bay, Craig’s List, My Space, Flickr, YouTube, Blogs, Comments on other peoples work, Forums, are all shouting the same message. We know we are connected and are seeking to make it come to form.

Amit Gaswami says that the gurus who say we can create our dreams out of space are off just a little. The real consciousness needs everyone to rise together with the same dream. Love is one way to get universal accord. A former spiritual leader said “Love Your Enemies.”  Some have said “I can’t get to heaven if you can’t”

In “The Eighth Habit” by Steven Covey, he says that our highest mission is to find our voice and help everyone else find their voice. Maybe the internet is how everyone expresses their voice, but the feelings have to start with developing a consciousness of connection.

Imagine Your Ideal Life

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Your imagination is your first link to a larger truer reality.

You are driven to a fancy restaurant. In the large waiting lounge are your favorite movie stars, authors, scientists, historical figures, and old friends. They all know you and want to talk to you; maybe even get some advice.

There are beautiful men and women waiting to match up as dinner companions. You select one and have a delicious meal of your favorite foods. Afterwards you two are driven to your ideal home where your team of personal servants awaits.

They lead you to your private spa where you can have any treatments you like; steam, seaweed wraps, massage, pedicure, facial, salt scrub, followed by oils and powders. You are given a white terry cloth robe and go to the master bedroom where you meet your real mate or new friend.

The next day you are driven to your private jet and whisked away to a secluded tropical island where you engage in your favorite things; swim, scuba, surf, reading in a hammock, or sun bathing.  You have mangos, papayas, and pineapple for lunch.

The world of imagination is part of a larger reality than the limited one in which you probably exist. To have the perfect work, you can access the same imaginary space. The world of Quantum Physics is one of unlimited possibilities.

The larger reality exists in the space that surrounds us. Since matter is 99.9% space, there is a lot of space filled with information, consciousness, and dreams.

It is easiest to get there in the states where you have quieted your mind. You might try meditation but it is easiest in the dream stage or just before waking up. You can start blending the world of limited possibilities with the world of unlimited possibilities by starting your sentences with “I want”.

You can start changing your limited reality existence by improving your health and fitness, reading better materials, limiting the amount of noise that enters your mind, and feeling ways to appreciate being here.

The ways to afford your ideal life are in the same space as the dreams. People such as Gates, Buffet, Jobs, Zuckerberg are just the known people who have accessed their ideal work through imagination.  In any case, accessing the dreams lift your vision to the possibilities. Lifting your consciousness by living for the possibilities and reducing negative thoughts and reactions starts bridging the gap.

Helping others reach their dreams helps you move faster. We are all connected and past spiritual leaders have said that if you can’t get into heaven, I won’t go either.

Are You Set Up to Maximize Creativity?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Lately, I have been reading about Quantum Physics, Consciousness, and Extra Sensory Perception (ESP)

The authors are usually scientists or physicians that begin with resistance to believing in information that does not originate in our brain. The materialistic view point or classical physicists would say that matter is the only existence.

Scientists have chosen to ignore how many animals get their special knowing and how many events could occur that are outside the realm of what fits in their system. This is the reason that Quantum Physics has become the tool of studying the possibilities.

In the book “Extraordinary Knowing” Elizabeth Lloyd Mayer, Ph.D, an internationally known researcher into science and intuition and clinical professor of psychology at the University of California began her studies from an unusual event.

Her daughters harp had been stolen and when all measures failed for retrieving it, she was left with the last possible solution of using a seer to find it. This seer from across the country pin pointed the house in Oakland where it was located.

With great resistance as a scientist and a therapist, she began investigating the possibilities. She found that other scientists had the same resistance but were often forced to face new realizations as the data was proved.

The CIA, NSA and other government agencies paid Stanford University researchers $20 million over twenty years from the early 1970’s to the early 90’s for their effective process of creating remote knowing.

Scientists found that when subjects went into a meditation where they could receive information from other locations the posterior superior parietal lobe of the brain goes dark. This is the center that tells us where we are located.

“It therefore opens the possibility that we are becoming one with our environment in this process. It could lead to a subjective sense of oneness or connectedness with everything around them.” Mayer

In extensive studies, she points out, Andrew Newburg and Eugene D’Aquili, authors of “Why God Won’t Go Away, Brain Science and the Biology of Belief” say great meditators learn how to tone down the flow of incoming sensory information that constituted our daily habit”. That is principally how mystics and meditators gain access to the states in which they engage.

Mayer draws a conclusion “Perhaps if the ordinary flowing of perpetual input feeding our habitual awareness of separateness is dampened down, we gain access to information that under ordinary circumstances is out of reach”

I would not expect any of us to become great meditators or mystics. But there are ways and times we can access information not normally available to us in our daily process.

Omit Gaswami, an Indian Quantum Physicist has written the text book used in many Universities. He also is the focus of the documentary “The Quantum Activist” suggested we move in and out of the left brain and right brain activities. We study and gather our information and define our problems and then we set them down.

We let the mind mull over the information we have input and at the right time, it will come up with suggestions. This time can be in a 24 hour cycle. There are ways to suspend left brain thinking and access right brain intuition.

Simply engaging in monotonous physical activity like a long run, bike ride, or walk could work. I like meditating after strenuous activity because my mind is very peaceful. Other activities such as hobbies, car washing, house cleaning and the like can also free our mind of daily trivia (monkey chatter).

But best of all is during sleep.  By 2 A.M. you have not had any external stimulus for 4 hours. By 5:30 A.M. you have not had any stimulus for 8 hours. This is the state we are most receptive and least resistant to this need for scientific knowing.

This is the state in which we are open to all knowledge or ideas that might be available to us. This is the state where many great scientists have gotten their breakthroughs and their discoveries.

If you want to be creative and innovative, give your mind an opportunity to access a world of information that at this time you might not be willing to concede exists.

Going It Alone or Accessing Universal Energies?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

The salmon is one of many creatures that lives with special talents created not evolved.

It is born in a cold 47 degree stream and moves to a nearby lake to grow and avoid being eaten. It finds its way to the ocean where after transforming to salt water it finds a gyre* to spend its next couple of years. A gyre is a large circular flow of the oceans water. In three years it will swim over 10,000 miles feeding and avoid being eaten.

While in the gyre it will feed on plankton, shrimp, and other small fish. Plankton were among the first forms of life 500 million years ago in the Cambrian era before an infusion of oxygen created an explosion of bio diversity and began modern life.

Plankton that feeds the salmon is transformed to the seals, tuna, swordfish, and later bears and eagles that also treasure the salmon. All powerful in their own right they survive on nature’s most basic forms of life. Not a French fry in the lot.

At a certain point the salmon knows that it is time to return to the stream of its origin. It has its last food and then swims over 1,200 miles to find the exact stream outlet from whence it came.  It swims up river and even straight up water falls where it will meet a mate and fertilize 4,000 eggs. Then having felt like it has severely over trained and not having a molecule of energy remaining, it dies.

The salmon has neither a watch nor a map as it knows when to begin its return journey and how to find its way back to meet its final destiny. It is led by powerful sources of information that are availed to hundreds of unique species, created not evolved to perform precise tasks whose failure at any point result in immediate death.

Is man created to be less magnificent than the salmon? Did the salmon create the Theory of Relativity, the Periodic Tables, the Symphonies of Mozart, or the Kubla Khan? All these were credited by the authors to be sourced by Universal Energies; revelations, epiphanies.

What do you have planned for today? A little work, some French fries, read the paper and watch some TV? Not to belittle but to point out how we miss what is available and how we don’t take the first steps to sourcing our potential.

Healthy eating, fitness, and spirituality would be a start to get us out of the stream into the mighty ocean of knowledge. It would only begin what could be a glorious journey into our possibilities. Millions of salmon don’t make it as far as the ocean where they would begin their true journey.

Eating factory raised corn fed red meat might be a step above a diet of Twinkies; but certainly a step closer to immanent disease. How far away is it from plankton? No one eats plankton, but there are foods that can deliver the same vibrational qualities. A diet of foods such as green algae, chia, hemp, kale, broccoli, almonds, apples, beans, flax seed, could provide almost 100% of what you need to live a very long lived, disease free, energetic life.

How do we reach our productivity potential? We rarely get great ideas while engaging the calculating left brain. It is a terrific mode for defining problems and doing research. For students who need to find information and report on what they found, the left brain is the ticket.

For those who need to create new solutions, defining the problem and doing the research is the first step. Then the information should be left alone and allow the right brain of intuition, relationships, and subconscious connections ruminate over our data.

The lower we get in brain wave consciousness like theta and delta where we travel in sleep, meditation, or monotonous activities like long bike rides, running, or even house cleaning, the closer we get to accessing universal energies to help our cause.

I rarely try to come up with topics for posts during the day. I research all the topics I enjoy and read new information. Then at 2 in the morning or before I wake up the lead idea or the whole post comes to me. I do this almost 360 days a year. This is the process for many of our best discoveries. If I had to do it all during the day, I couldn’t.

The other helpful exercise is to go to sleep with our world in good order. I try to take care of all obligations and personal relationship issues in my waking hours so that nothing would haunt my dreams. I engage in healthy eating, exercise, thoughts of gratitude, love, and community during my conscious day.

Most great thinkers of the past have said the world of reality beyond what we sense is available for us to access if we open the channels. We have so much potential beyond a hum drum experience that we allow ourselves to slip into.

Can you prepare your body mind and spirit to enter the realm of the Universal energies to tap into who you really are? The eventual power of the salmon to swim up a waterfall is your power to transfer the Universal energies into forms of self expression and contribution.

We Are Responsible for Pesticide Spraying and GMO’s

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

McDonalds is the largest potato customer in the U.S.

Because they want a long French Fry, the Burbank Russet has become their potato of choice. When farmers grow just one potato each year, the bugs learn how to infest it. To preserve their crops, farmers need to spray. Spraying results in 40% of the cost of production.

The potato came from South America. In the mountains of Peru, hundreds of potato varieties grow in bio diversity. They do not need to be sprayed.

As another example, apples come from Kazakhstan. There are thousands of varieties that grow in their forests. If you plant the seeds of an apple, you will not get the apple you are eating. They have varied genealogy. They have to be grafted to create the apple of choice. In the U.S. because we only want the sweet ones and grow just a few varieties we have to spray.

Monoculture creates the need for spraying pesticides which of course affect the sustainability of the land. The other way around spraying is GMO’s by Monsanto. In the potato they insert a gene that kills the beetle that destroys the crops. That eliminates the spraying and reduces that cost.

McDonalds used these GMO potatoes in the 90’s until they were forced to disclose that they were GMO’s and the public demanded they stop.

Other crops are being assisted world wide to make agriculture more productive. GMO’s increase crop yield per acre and defeat pests. They can even be engineered to live with less water which is useful in Africa.

I am not an advocate or adversary of GMO, but it seems the decision against them should not be made without facts as opposed to emotional reactions to the unknown. If we had not stopped nuclear power plants in the 70’s our oil imports and carbon foot print would be much smaller today.

Robert Mitchum once said that just because we are not paranoid does not mean something is not out to get us. On the other hand, just because we are paranoid does not mean that something is the wrong choice.

The public needs to be more informed because sometimes what they ask for is not what they really want.

The Greening of American Auto Transportation is another important issue. The Public Research Institute has an article about bio fuels and electric cars. Their comments are:

“Put simply, public policy is too important to be left just to the experts. Individuals are the real decision makers when it comes to their schools, health care, and environment.”

See this Aritcle on “Car-Tastrophe”

Article on EPA guidllines vs. Coal Mining and Natural Gas Fracking

http://www.pacificresearch.org/publications/sustaining-environmental-quality-and-economic-growth

“The concept of “Sustainable Development” is teetering on a precarious balance between environmental sensibility and economic viability, with the latter being all but forgotten.”

“Over time the environmental movement has begun to demand more diplomacy but dogmatism and militant activism has hindered the transition from confrontation to cooperation.

A better approach maintains the balance between environmental and economic priorities by embracing both development and human beings as positive and promising forces in our world’s evolution. Sound environmental goals cannot be built on a foundation which demonizes economic growth and disseminates misinformation in order to frighten the public. Immediate economic benefits must be counterbalanced with long-term environmental effects and vice versa. “
